The Environment Protection and Biodiversity Conservation Act 1999 (EPBC Act) protects the environment, particularly matters of National Environmental Significance. It streamlines national environmental assessment and approvals process, protects Australian biodiversity and integrates management of important natural and cultural places.
Environment Protection and Heritage Council (EHPC)
The Environment Protection and Heritage Council (EPHC) has environment protection and heritage (natural, historic and indigenous heritage) responsibilities. This site contains National Environment Protection Measures. NEPMs have already been made for Air, National Pollution Inventory, Movement of Controlled Waste, Used Packaging Materials and Assessment of Site Contamination.
Quarantine and Biosecurity Review
A comprehensive, independent review of Australia's quarantine and biosecurity systems is being undertaken by an independent panel of experts. The panel will consult widely, and people or organisations with an interest in these matters are encouraged to have their say.
