APS ICT Entry-level Programs

The Australian Government wants to employ you!

The Australian Government is offering excellent opportunities to start an exciting career in Information and Communications Technology in Government as an Apprentice or Cadet.

APS ICT Apprenticeship Program

Each year the APS seeks candidates keen to take on an ICT Apprenticeship in an Australian Government agency.

Apprentices gain valuable experience working in an APS environment, and the associated study leads to a Certificate IV or Diploma in Information Technology.

Australian Public Service Information and Communications Technology Apprenticeship Program

“The Apprenticeship Program gave me the head start I needed into an ICT career with the Australian Public Service. I have been exposed to many areas of IT as it is moving towards the future. It has been great being involved in Australia wide projects, such as Windows Server 2008 R2 rollout".

APS ICT Cadetship Program

The APS ICT Cadetship Program is also employing current university students to work part-time in an Australian Government agency while completing a university undergraduate degree.

Australian Public Service Information and Communications Technology Cadetship Program

"The Cadet Program is a great way to get a feel for difference areas of work. In my placement I’ve been doing both coding and BA work and now have a much clearer understanding of where I want my career to go and what I want to focus my study on. The hours have also been very flexible so it’s a good way to earn money without impacting your study much".

Participating Agencies for 2011

"I started my Apprenticeship Program at the start of the year (2010) and in the short time I have been involved in the program I have found it a rewarding and challenging career path. I have worked across a few areas and the work is always interesting, demanding and most of all rewarding. I am gaining valuable skills from both CIT and my workplace as well as priceless experience within the Australian Public Service. I want to make my living from IT and the Apprenticeship is providing me with the best possible start”.
