Legalising documents - authentications and apostilles
The Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT) can certify that a signature, stamp or seal on a document is genuine. Either an Authentication stamp or Apostille is then stamped on the document, depending on which country is being dealt with.

Passport renewal
To renew your Australian passport using the renewal form, you will need a passport that was issued in your current name, be valid for at least two years when issued, be an Australian citizen and aged 18 years or over.

Passports - apply for, renew or report a lost or stolen Australian passport
When you apply for an Australian passport you will need to provide original documents which confirm your Australian citizenship and your identity.
Need a passport urgently? Ask about the Priority Processing Service when you lodge your application.
Lost or stolen passports must be reported as soon as practicable after you become aware of the loss or theft.

Passports - change of Name
Passports are issued in your birth or citizenship name unless you have formally registered another name with an Australian Registry of Births, Deaths and Marriages (RBDM). If you wish to change the name that appears in your passport, you must provide originals of documents that explain all name changes you have had since birth or obtaining Australian citizenship.
