Parliamentary publications

The following is a list of key resources available from the Parliament of Australia. In addition, each parliamentary department produces its own publications which are accessible from the Parliament of Australia website.

ParlInfo search lets you search and obtain Australian Parliamentary information including hansards, bills, senate journals, votes and proceedings, notice papers, committee reports, the Parliamentary Handbook, newspaper clippings, media, publications and much more.

Bills

A bill is a proposal for a law or a change to an existing law. A bill becomes law (an Act) when agreed to in identical form by both houses of Parliament and assented to by the Governor-General.

Bills and legislation

Includes links to bills being considered by Parliament and awaiting Royal Assent and previous bills that have received Royal Assent and bills otherwise disposed of.

Hansard

Hansard

Hansard is the name given to the edited transcripts of debates in the Senate, House of Representatives, Main Committee and parliamentary committees. They are published shortly after the chamber or committee proceedings have concluded. The electronic version of Hansard is available from 1981 onwards.

Committee reports

Parliamentary committees conduct inquiries into specified matters which includes taking submissions, hearing witnesses, sifting evidence, discussing matters in detail and formulating reasoned conclusions.

Senate and other Senate-based committees

Lists of inquiries, reports, submissions and transcripts of Senate committees.

Register of Senate committee reports (1970-2010)

Register comprises Chronological listing of reports; Chronological listing by committee; Chronological listing by subject matter; Bills referred to committees; Reports on the scrutiny of annual reports and Reports on the examination of estimates.

Significant reports tabled before 1997 listed by committee with the date tabled.

House of Representatives and other House-based committees

A complete list of inquiries, reports, submissions and transcripts.

Register of Committee reports

A complete list of all House of Representative and Joint Committee Reports from 1901 to the current day. The list of reports can be browsed by Parliament, Committee Name or Subject.

Parliamentary papers

Of all the documents presented to Parliament each year, only documents of a substantial nature are included in the Parliamentary Papers series (PPS).

Lists of documents by calendar year, 2002-2012 are included in the Parliamentary Papers series (PPS). Note: some of these parliamentary papers are not available online; please contact the publisher or publishing agency if you are unable to locate a parliamentary paper.

The Parliamentary Handbook provides detailed information about Parliament including the parliamentary service and political careers of Senators and Members, and details of parliamentary committees and elections.
