Service Description
Search Australian military history and access information about objects in the collection and biographical information based on records held in the Australian War Memorial’s collection.
The Australian War Memorial has a number of databases which can be searched online. These include:
- Collections Search – art, photographs, film, sound recordings, private records, military heraldry, military technology
- Finding Aids – information about selected private records and ephemera held in the Research Centre of the Australian War Memorial
- Books – holdings of the Research Centre of the Australian War Memorial; also includes journals, maps and sheet music
- Australian Army war diaries
- Records of CEW Bean - Australia’s official WW1 war correspondent and historian
- Research a person – a selection of pre-set searches to help you find people who served with the Australian armed forces
- Roll of Honour – Australian armed forces members who died on active service
- Commemorative Roll – Australians who died on active service with allied forces
- Remembrance Book – Australians who died on operations after 30 June 1947
- Honours and Awards – Details of honours and awards made or recommended to Australian while on active service
- Australian Red Cross Society Wounded and Missing Enquiry Bureau files – approximately 32,000 digitised individual case files of Australian personnel during WW1
- Australian Military Forces, Prisoner of War and Missing, Far East and South West Pacific Islands - approximately 23,000 AMF prisoners of war and missing personnel from operations in the Far East and South West Pacific Islands, as at 30 June 1944.
