Water efficiency labelling

Service Description

Australian households can reduce their water and energy bills by choosing more water-efficient products when they buy.

The Water Efficiency Labelling and Standards (WELS) water rating label provides water efficiency information for household water-using products. It is similar in appearance to the energy rating label (which washing machines and dishwashers must also carry).

The scheme also allows industry to showcase its most water-efficient products.

How do I use this service?

Under the scheme, product suppliers are required to provide water efficiency information, and star-ratings, to consumers for washing machines, dishwashers, showers, taps, toilets, urinals and flow controllers.

The label carries two important pieces of information to help the consumer to compare products - stars and water consumption or water flow figures.

For better water efficiency, the more stars the better, and the lower the water consumption number the better!
