The Department of Transport and Main Roads was formed in April 2009, when two former departments (Queensland Transport and the Department of Main Roads) merged. The department is responsible for planning, managing and delivering Queensland's integrated transport environment to achieve sustainable transport solutions for road, rail, air and sea.

Main roads (WA)
Main Roads is Western Australia's State road authority, managing a network of some 17,800 kilometres of National Highways and State Roads with a value of more than $16.4 billion. Main Roads works in conjunction with Local Government and its local road network in order to create an integrated and efficient transport network that supports the needs of all road users.

Roads and Traffic Authority, NSW
The Roads and Traffic Authority (RTA) is responsible for promoting road safety and traffic management, driver licensing and vehicle registration in News South Wales. It is also responsible for the maintenance and development of the National Highway and State Road network in NSW. It provides funding assistance to Local Councils for Regional Roads and to a limited extent, for Local Roads.
